I am not sure how to go about describing my past experiences with literature. However, I will say I am not a fan of having it forced down my throat, so often done in high school. In fact I hated reading the assigned material in high school. On the other hand when I read in my free time I love it. What makes books so great is that everyone can imagine a character or an event differently.
I am a fan of gaming, movies (my favorite is Snatch), the internet and television. When asked, "what is literature?" all i have to say is, literature is what you make it. I end quoting Salman Rushdie, "Literature is where I go to explore the highest and lowest places in human society and in the human spirit, where I hope to find not absolute truth but the truth of the tale, of the imagination and of the heart.”

ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about reading, I like it only when its not "forced down my throat." Thats cool though that your girlfriend is an art major! Hopefully I will like it too :).

ReplyDeleteWell it was more of either choosing biology or accounting. I love both math and science but can not do them together. And seems like reading is boring to all of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH, which means we better like reading to pass this class!!!! see ya
I love reading in my free time also, I think I like the freedom to choose what book to read and when to read it. In high school they always had us read specific chapters by a certain day and it annoyed me because I don't read a little at a time. When I read I read for hours on end and then don't pick a book up for days or even over a week. I like how in this class we pretty much just have to read the book by a certain date, much easier especially with my busy schedule :)
